Volunteer Opportunities at New Futures

New Futures supports motivated young adults in the Washington, DC region to complete postsecondary education and transition into meaningful careers. Through scholarships, coaching, and career development, New Futures Scholars build pathways to economic mobility and long-term success.

In addition to the incredible staff on our team who are constantly creating opportunities for our Scholars, we also need professional, dedicated volunteers to join our mission.

Thought Partnership and Career Connections

Help expand access to meaningful careers for New Futures Scholars by sharing your expertise and networks. We would love for our volunteers to:

• Provide insight into key industry sectors and workforce trends

• Connect New Futures to employers, hiring managers, and industry leaders

• Facilitate job shadow days, internships (preferably paid), and early career opportunities

• Host or coordinate site visits for Scholars at your workplace

• Participate in or recommend speakers for CareerCon and other career exposure events

• Share access to conferences, panels, and speakingo pportunities

Connector Roles

Play a direct role in advancing the New Futures mission by opening doors and building relationships. We would love for you to:

• Make warm introductions to corporate partners, CSR teams, and individual major donors

• Host or co-host small gatherings (dinners, happy hours)

• Invite New Futures staff into spaces where relationship-building can occur

• Identify companies that can provide career pipelines and financial or in-kind support

Suggested engagement:

• 2–3 introductions per year

• 1 hosted gathering or invitation opportunity

Signature Events

We host several events every year so that volunteers and supporters can be fully engaged with our Scholars and the New Futures community at large. We also have sponsors host events on our behalf. Some of our needs include:

• Scholars Weekend (Summer 2026)

• CareerCon (Winter 2027): Workshops, career readiness, mock interviews, resume reviews, and event support

• Marketing/PR skill-based projects

• Taste of New Futures (Fall 2026)

• Night Out with New Futures (Spring 2027)

• Salon Dinners (in-kind space hosts welcome)

Mission in Action

There are several ways to get involved where you can truly see the mission of New Futures in action. Some of these volunteer opportunities include:

• Scholar panels and storytelling events

• Virtual conversations with Scholars and alumni
