New Futures propels young adults through community college degrees or professional certifications and into rewarding careers. We offer this through a combination of scholarships, academic and career advising, skill-building workshops, career education programming, and wraparound support.


The eligibility checklist below explains the required criteria that applicants must meet to be considered for the New Futures program.


Required Eligibility Criteria


K–12 Credential


Applicants must:

  • Be a high school graduate or have completed their GED.

  • Applicants who will earn their diploma or GED by the end of the selection process may still apply.

Career Pathways


Applicants must be pursuing an educational program in one of New Futures’ approved Career Pathways:

  • Information Technology (IT)

  • Education

  • Hospitality & Culinary Arts

  • Health Sciences

  • Construction & Trades

  • Public Service

  • Business


Geographic Region


Applicants must live in one of the following areas:


Washington, DC


Maryland

  • Montgomery County

  • Prince George’s County


Virginia

  • Fairfax County

  • Arlington County

  • Prince William County

  • City of Fairfax

  • City of Alexandria

  • City of Falls Church


Applicants must also attend a community college within these regions.


Age Requirement


Applicants must be between 17–29 years old.


Type of Degree


Applicants must be pursuing one of the following (and must not already hold a bachelor’s degree):

  • Professional certification

  • Associate degree


Point in Educational Program


If applicants have already begun their program, their projected graduation date must be May 2026 or later.


Financial Status


Applicants must have a combined household income at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).


Income limits by household size:

1 person — $66,750

2 people — $76,250

3 people — $85,800

4 people — $95,300

5 people — $102,950

6 people — $110,550

7 people — $118,200

8 people — $125,800
