CareerCon is New Futures’ annual, hands-on career-development event designed to ignite growth, build connections, and prepare Scholars for the next step in their professional journeys. Hosted by the University of the District of Columbia, this year’s event brought together 120+ Scholars and 60+ volunteers for a full day of learning, networking, and inspiration.

The day began with powerful keynote addresses from Dr. Maurice Edington, President of UDC, and Najmah Abdur-Rahman, AWS Associate Solutions Architect and proud New Futures alum (pictured above left to right with New Futures CEO Dr. Sherrod Williams). Their words set the tone for a dynamic day focused on empowerment, opportunity, and possibility.
Inspiring Conversations & Actionable Skills
Throughout the day, Scholars attended interactive sessions led by industry professionals, alumni, and mentors. Workshops explored everything from interview preparation and AI advancements to salary negotiation, entrepreneurship, and career readiness. These sessions offered tangible, real-world insights to help Scholars navigate the evolving workforce with confidence.
Gratitude
CareerCon wouldn’t be possible without our incredible speakers, volunteers, industry partners, and the New Futures Programs team. Their dedication and expertise created a day filled with inspiration and impact. Our Scholars left CareerCon with new skills, meaningful connections, and the confidence to keep pushing forward in their career journey.
