Jamila Williams serves as Director of People, Culture, and Operations at New Futures, bringing heart, innovation, and a deep commitment to equity to her leadership. As a former teen parent and first-generation college graduate, she understands the power of support and opportunity and works to build systems where every colleague can thrive.
A proud graduate of Marymount University, Jamila earned her B.A. in Fashion Merchandising in 2015 and quickly discovered her passion for uplifting her community. She has spent her career helping young professionals of color leverage short-term degrees to access meaningful, long-term careers. Early roles in case management, career coaching, and program leadership allowed her to support adults across the Washington, DC region as they pursued stable, rewarding futures.
During the pandemic, Jamila found her calling in HR, organizational culture, and recruiting. As part of New Futures’ leadership team, she has strengthened hiring practices, enhanced the employee lifecycle, and helped build a more inclusive, equitable workplace. Widely regarded as an innovator, she continually develops tools, workflows, and systems that increase efficiency and ensure staff feel valued, supported, and empowered.
Jamila’s leadership is rooted in empathy, clarity, and a belief that strong internal culture is essential to serving Scholars well. Her lived experience and professional expertise uniquely position her to champion people-first practices that strengthen the entire New Futures community.
Outside of work, Jamila enjoys sightseeing real estate properties with her husband, cheering on her son at basketball games, and learning the latest dance moves from her daughter.
