Jaleesa Johnson

Scholars Program Advisor

Jaleesa Johnson is a Scholar Program Advisor at New Futures, where she partners with Scholars as they navigate college, access resources, and pursue their educational and career goals. She is passionate about helping students discover opportunities they may not have known existed and empowering them to advocate for themselves throughout their journey.

As a first-generation college student, Jaleesa understands firsthand how overwhelming it can be to navigate higher education without a roadmap. As an out-of-state student with limited financial resources, she spent countless hours researching scholarships, grants, and campus resources to make her education possible. That experience shaped her belief that access to information can change the trajectory of a student's life.

Jaleesa discovered her passion for student success while working as a Transition Coordinator, where she helped high school students prepare for life after graduation. She found joy in connecting students with opportunities, answering questions they didn't know to ask, and helping them build confidence in their next steps. Since then, she has dedicated her career to supporting students through advising, coaching, and resource navigation, ensuring they never have to navigate their educational journey alone.

Jaleesa earned her bachelor's degree in Public Relations from Columbia College Chicago. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, journaling, watching Asian dramas, and spending time with her husband and their two cats, Remy and Sushi.
