New Futures not only awards life-changing scholarships but tailored, individual support to each Scholar. This type of one-on-one support is vital in helping Scholars complete their education programs. With support, New Futures Scholars complete their programs at a rate of 70% – a remarkably high rate when compared with students from similar socioeconomic backgrounds. We have a persistence rate of 87%, supporting our Scholars to continue in their post-secondary programs through graduation.
New Futures provides support to our Scholars in a variety of ways:
Scholar Workshops: New Futures conducts two workshops for each new Scholar cohort. The first Workshop helps Scholars prepare for post-secondary education, including study skills, time management and making use of campus resources. The second Workshop emphasizes the life skills required to succeed in school and in the workplace like problem-solving, communication and teamwork. The Workshops always receive positive feedback from our Scholars and our Community Partners. Scholars come away feeling empowered and with increased confidence, ready for the next step on their path to a good career.
New Futures Scholars Weekend: The Weekend included activities such as a high ropes course, trust exercises and time for goal-setting, reflection, and connection with fellow Scholars. The Weekend raises Scholars’ confidence, helps them develop a strong sense of community and deepens their connection to New Futures. Research shows that these types of opportunities significantly increase students’ chances of success.
