Career Program

New Futures propels under-served young people through certifications and community college degrees and into rewarding careers across the Washington, DC region.  We invest with a deliberate combination of scholarships, academic advising, career coaching, and a lot of heart to help our Scholars launch careers in high-growth fields like IT, Health Sciences, and Construction.

Through our Career Program, New Futures helps nearly 200 current Scholars and 100 Alumni achieve their career goals in pursuit of financial stability.  Our suite of services includes:

Career Pathways Model: New Futures has begun to tailor our career supports around the Washington, DC region’s high-growth and in-demand career fields like hospitality, construction, education, and healthcare.  We began our IT/Cybersecurity Career Pathway pilot in 2017, and so far, more than 20 Scholars and Alumni have benefited from field-specific workshops and opportunities for exposure and networking with IT professionals and Corporate Partners, as well as New Futures Alumni already thriving in IT careers.

Career Launch Workshop: a powerful biannual workshop that provides Scholars and Alumni opportunities to develop their resumes, receive personalized interview coaching, and learn invaluable workplace problem-solving tips that help them land and succeed in careers.

To attend or volunteer at our next Career Launch Workshop in October 2018, contact Ellie Geraghty, Alumni and Career Program Manager.

One-on-One Advising: New Futures’ staff advisors guide Scholars and Alumni along the continuum of education and career; they champion Scholars’ career goals, connect them with resources and professional contacts, and help them leverage courses and credentials.

Networking Opportunities: New Futures must address the network gap that exists between those with and without privilege.  In 2018, we are connecting Scholars and Alumni with early career networks and with skills and tools necessary to succeed in networking on their own.
