New Scholar Workshop

A New Scholar Workshop was held for the recent group of New Futures scholarship recipients to provide advice and guidance as they get ready to pursue their post-secondary education.  Topics covered include Problem Solving/Making Use of Resources on Campus, Time Management, and Study Skills.  The workshop was enjoyed by all, and the scholars got a chance to get to know one another as they prepared to take on the challenges their futures may hold.

Mike Gould, president and founder of New Futures, expressed his confidence in the scholars’ ability to achieve their goals and encouraged them to maintain the commitment and determination that got them to where they are today.  He also reminded them that they are backed by their mentors at our partnering community organizations, the New Futures organization, and the Beyond Talent group who assisted with the workshop, and could call on these resources at any time if they encountered problems.

The New Scholar Workshops were a new addition to the New Futures program in 2009 in an effort to help New Futures scholarship recipients with the sometimes difficult transition to post-secondary education.   We believe that armed with some critical skills, and having the backing of those who believe in them, our scholars will be successful in achieving their goals.
