Monday, April 30th, 2012 at The Studio Theatre located at 1501 14th Street, NW, Washington, DC at 6:00 pm.

Join us for a fun and informative evening, including plenty to eat and drink, and a panel discussion moderated by Michelle Norris, NPR’s All Things Considered, with Hosanna Mahaley, State DC Superintendent, Lori Kaplan, Executive Director, Latin American Youth Center and New Futures Scholars. Come meet some of the wonderful young people you have helped support.

Student Workshops: News and Pictures

New Futures recently completed our two workshops for the latest scholar class. These workshops provide tools to enable our students to handle the often challenging transition to post-secondary education. Topics covered include study skills, time management, and making use of resources on campus. Julene Jarnot, New Futures Director of Student Programs, did a fantastic job leading this workshop. The second workshop is led by CustomEd, a non-profit organization that provides customized education programming. This workshop is designed to develop students’ skills in problem solving, communication and presentation, and team work. This workshop engages our students in lively discussions and unique challenges to expand their comfort zone and confidence. To see pictures from both workshops, please click here!

2011 Annual Benefit: A Smashing Success!

Thank you to all of our wonderful supporters for making this year’s Annual Benefit such a tremendous success! About 140 people attended our Benefit on April 15 that raised a record amount for New Futures. Twenty students came to the event and shared their stories with our guests, and our honored speaker, Byron Auguste, Director of McKinsey & Company, highlighted the importance of post-secondary education in preparing young people for the 21st century job market.
